Conservative management of Chronic Back Pain

This lecture will cover the management of chronic back pain using pharmaceuticals, acupuncture, manipulation, shockwave, and exercises. Chronic back pain can lead to a myriad of other conditions including anxiety, insomnia, restlessness, and aggression. A multimodal approach can result in an increased quality of life by reducing pain which reduces anxiety and allows strengthening of the spine.

  • 1 September – Common Sports injuries This lecture will start off the series with an overview of the common injuries we see in sport, both from my experience and from the available literature. We will not only discuss the literature but also how it should be interpreted. 
  • 8 September – Owner Management
    Competitive owners are a whole different ball game, we will discuss how to communicate with them and work together with them to achieve a successful diagnosis and outcome for their athletes and partners.
  • 15 September – Pre sport Assessment
    The first step to injury prevention is a full evaluation of a future athlete before their training starts. We will discuss what needs to be assessed as well as the risk factors and owner education that is involved at this evaluation.
  • 22 September – Fitness Plans for Injury Prevention:
    We will discuss general fitness plans and conditioning, as well as sports specific exercises that can be performed to ensure optimal function, soundness and strength to reduce the risks of injury.
